DCE were hired by Parsons to conduct the detailed design (Stage 3) road safety audits for various zones in the Central Doha and Corniche Beautification Project (PA 2019 C 079 I)’.
The geographical scope of this project includes the areas between the Corniche Street and the third Ring Road. The focus will be on redesigning and developing the streets within Doha Central District (the heart of the Old City which includes streets such as the Corniche Road, the Musheireb Road and the National Museum and other local streets) and is proposed to be completed before 2022, giving priority to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport at the expense of private vehicles. According to the objectives of the project, the redesign of the roads within the scope of the project may not be commensurate with the technical standards of road design and traffic studies approved by Land Transport Planning Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, including but not limited to: QHDM 2015, Qatar Traffic Control Manual, (QTCM 2015) Qatar’s Guidelines and procedures for Transport Studies, Qatar’s Guide for Pedestrian Crossroads, Qatar’s Transport Plan, etc.
Additionally, a large amount of existing on-street parking will be removed and parking garages will be provided throughout the project to cater for the parking demand in the area.
